White Star Supply Celebrates 5 Years of Serving Coastal Georgia

When Brad and Kimsey Shanks purchased the Brunswick and Waycross locations of Coley Electric, they saw more than shelves of inventory and delivery trucks. They saw an experienced team, loyal customers, and an opportunity to build something special.

Today, White Star Supply serves contractors, builders, electricians, plumbers, interior designers, and homeowners throughout Coastal Georgia and beyond with plumbing supplies, electrical materials, lighting, appliances, and expert support. While the company has grown significantly over the past five years, one thing has remained constant: people always come first.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’d like to share a little of the story behind White Star Supply—and thank the people who have made these first five years possible.

The Story Behind the Name 

The name White Star didn’t come from a branding agency or a brainstorming session. It came from family.

Years before White Star Supply existed, Kimsey’s father owned a business in Virginia called White Star Laundrymat. The name stayed with Brad and Kimsey through the years, representing something simple but meaningful: honest work, dependable service, and treating customers like neighbors. When the opportunity came to build something of their own, they knew they wanted a name that reflected those same values.

White Star Supply became more than a new name on the building—it became a promise about how the business would operate.

Building on Experience

Although the company was rebranded, one of White Star’s greatest strengths was already in place: its people.

Many members of the team had spent decades in the plumbing and electrical industry. Some had owned businesses of their own. Others had built careers helping contractors, builders, and homeowners solve problems every day.

Rather than replacing that experience, Brad and Kimsey empowered it. Employees were trusted to make decisions, share ideas, and use their expertise to take care of customers. Throughout interviews with team members over the years, the same themes surfaced again and again—trust, teamwork, integrity, and a workplace where people genuinely enjoy coming to work. Employees repeatedly described the atmosphere after the transition as dramatically improved, with many emphasizing that they felt valued and listened to.

That culture continues to shape every customer interaction today.

A Different Kind of Supply House 

Walk into White Star Supply, and you’ll quickly notice that it doesn’t feel like a typical supply house.

Whether you’re visiting our Brunswick showroom to select lighting and plumbing fixtures for a custom home or stopping by the counter before heading to a jobsite, you’ll be greeted by people who know the products—and care about your project.

Our showroom has become a destination for homeowners, designers, and builders looking for inspiration. From decorative lighting and kitchen fixtures to appliances and bathroom collections, customers can see products in person and receive guidance from experienced showroom professionals. Our counter teams help contractors and tradespeople keep projects moving. Behind the scenes, our warehouse and purchasing teams work every day to locate products, coordinate deliveries, and solve problems before they become delays.

And if you’re lucky, you may even meet Ace, Brad and Kimsey’s dog and White Star’s unofficial mascot.

From One Light Bulb to Large Commercial Projects

One of the things we’re most proud of is that every customer receives the same level of attention. Some people visit White Star Supply because they need a replacement light bulb or a faucet cartridge. Others are managing commercial developments, multifamily communities, schools, healthcare facilities, or large custom homes that require complete plumbing and electrical packages.
